Transition to Secondary School

SUPPORTING STUDENTS AND FAMILIES TO TRANSITION TO SECONDARY LEVEL

Our Year 6 students are supported and well prepared to head off to secondary school.

Year 6 academic curriculum is rigorous and supports students to be motivated and inquiry based learners.  It enables them to be creative and motivated learners who can work both independently and to collaborate in teams.

LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES

The students have opportunities to lead learning and community events in the school through taking on high order organisational tasks such as key leadership roles in the areas of School Captains, Sport, Faith and Justice, Environment and the Art’s.  All year 6 students support Prep students through the Buddy Program.

Throughout the year all Year 6 students are engaged in ongoing leadership classes and opportunities to assist them in developing skills of responsibility, independence and social emotional intelligence.

This wide range of opportunities gives students the confidence to enter secondary schools with a positive mindset, a can do attitude and sense of hope for the future.

OUR PARTNER SCHOOLS

St. Mary Magdalen’s have strong connections with local Catholic and Government Schools to support students in transition to Secondary Schools.

Salesian College and Avila College have long standing, ongoing relationships with our school which enables our students to experience opportunities available at secondary school.

These include invitations for students to attend science fairs, performing and visual arts’ events, martial arts’ and school tours.

Teachers and supporting staff prepare detailed reports and attend hand over interviews with secondary schools about individual student progress to ensure student needs are tabled with the secondary school to ensure the best possible outcomes for students.
