Events
Each year at St Mary Magdalen's School we organise events to invite the parish and community to gather and enjoy conversation, fun games or activities and special celebrations.
Some upcoming events are listed below:
Book Week - 25th August 2021
Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds
This year the students and teachers will be inviting families to our Book Week Event to celebrate the theme of “Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds”.
Through Art and Literacy the students are responding to the theme and exploring “What makes a good book?”
Story telling, reading together, asking inquiry questions and active listening are great ways to engage in children's learning. During book week we are enabling parent engagement through stories and sharing through reading.
Our creative teachers have designed some great ideas to enable parent engagement in learning!
Families will be provided with a Book Week Pack. In the pack is a packet of biscuits and a pack to make hot chocolate. We invited families to set aside an evening to have a pyjama and comfy toy night by:
- Sharing a book that the teachers have prepared online.
- Enjoying some hot chocolate and biscuits together.
- Reflecting and responding to the book in some way e.g. with a creative drawing or recreate a scene from the book and take a picture etc.
- Families are also asked to take a picture from around their home or 5km zone to show “Goodbye to the Old World of winter and Hello to the New World of Spring”.
Pictures and reflections will be included in our newsletter. Story telling nurtures children's imaginations and creativity as well as improving literacy skills.
