St Mary Magdalen’s is a Catholic Primary School situated in Chadstone and surrounded by the suburbs of Ashwood, East Malvern, Oakleigh and Mt Waverley. The school is safely located away from main roads, yet is very close to the Monash Freeway and Chadstone Shopping Centre. The area is well serviced by transport, health services and community facilities such as parks and sporting venues. Local secondary schools include Salesian College, Avila College, Sacred Heart College and Ashwood and Mt Waverley Secondary Colleges. Our school is closely associated with Salesian College through a range of teaching and learning activities such as Science Programs, Chess, Middle Years Programs and Community Service.

First opened in 1954, St Mary Magdalen’s is richly valued with the local community as a school that offers an excellent education in a welcoming and supportive environment. The school first opened in the back of the old Church now known as the Vin Creed Centre. In 1955 a brick school was built and staffed by the Presentation Sisters and lay teachers. The school has always been a part of a vibrant parish community, and values the generosity of the parishioners who have supported the school over the past fifty years.

Over the years there have been a number of additions and renovations to the school to ensure that the school provides excellent modern facilities to meet the educational needs of its students.

Our current school enrolment is 183 students. In 2010 we have eight classes, with a mixture of straight and composite classes. Each of our classes is supported by a Teacher Aide during Literacy and Numeracy sessions.
